The other day at work I had to scan in some images so I could forward them to my Art Director Dave and the boss man, Doogie. However my scanner would not work - it was like the thing died of old age and would never scan again. So I did what any poor soul would do and pushed the thing off my desk and into the trash. I wasn’t going to let that little old scanner get me down so I went on with my day and finished up some paperwork ( “YES,” I do paperwork, mostly paper airplanes but today I actually wrote on the paper).
After finishing up I ran off to Fry’s Electronic’s to pick me out a new Scanner. After looking around for a bit I ran with the Epson V500 Photo scanner. Not a bad little machine, she does 6400dpi’s of optical resolution and moves faster then our resident racer Team Nick. The coolest thing about it is she also scans slides and negatives, so look out as I am going to break out some stuff from my archives.
As a test I grabbed an old skateboarding shot. I wanted something with a good mix of colors shadows and some depth of field. This way I can really see what this Epson can do. I was impressed! The new Epson was ten times better than my old unit. I hope you enjoy the photo - I will grab some more transparencies hopefully before Friday, I have a roll or two sitting on my desk from our Mod Quad shoot with Wayne Matlock’s new Honda 700xx.
For all you camera enthusiasts, this photo was shot with my Mamiya RZ67 on E6 Fuji Provia 100 film. Shot with one Q-flash, the camera settings where 1/400 @ f11 and the shot was metered at iso64. I almost forgot about the glass, I used a Mamiya-Sekor 150mm f3.5 lens.

It’s kind of weird when you sound like you know what you’re talking about…it’s freaking me out Enrico!
Cool shot. Now let’s see some Quad stuff from the archives.
